Technology Lures Today’s Tech-Savvy Residents
A study by The National Association of Home Builders sought to
identify what factors influence renters’ and buyers’ decisions
about where to live. Predictably, location and look were the top
two factors. Interestingly, a new, modern “feel” was the third
key rationale. Knowing that, developers are offering high-tech
amenities in common areas to “wow” residents. For example,
fitness centers now offer networked audio, state-of-the-art
equipment and flat-panel televisions – sometimes one per machine.
Life Fitness® recently introduced a line of equipment that
includes iPod® docking stations so users can enjoy their favorite
tunes while exercising. Well-equipped, properly designed theater
rooms convey this “new” atmosphere as well. With one or two
big-screen TVs and multiple flat-screens this room can quickly
become a social hub. Looking to create a lasting impact right
away? Consider digital signage – an innovative, multipurpose
communication tool. Use it in sales centers to showcase floor
plans and renderings … or post community events and announcements
in common areas. However you choose to incorporate this dynamic
technology, it will feel contemporary – offering the “newness”
that potential residents desire and current residents appreciate.
Additionally, consider updating standard services that also
increase safety and efficiency. For example, instead of a basic
voice intercom system, install video intercoms to bolster
security. That way, residents can physically see who is seeking
entry. Using that same screen, the concierge desk could quickly
and easily send messages to residents regarding maintenance
updates, package notifications and other important issues.
